PHOTO PORTAL LAUNCHED TO PROMOTE SLOVENIA
Several Slovenian companies and institutions have launched a web portal which aims to attract tourists to the country by presenting Slovenia's heritage, urban areas and countryside, traditional food and life-style in professional and amateur photos.
Ljubljana, 11 November (STA) - "Picture Slovenia" at
www.pictureslovenia.com
includes a photo competition encouraging everyone to capture Slovenia's features with their cameras and upload photos to the portal, Tomaz Puh of Slovenia's subsidiary of camera producer Nikon said on Wednesday.
The result will be a map of Slovenia featuring photos and descriptions of every corner of the country. The descriptions will be provided by the Slovenian Tourism Board (STO), which joined the projects because it believes that "a photo can say much more than a word".
The portal will be fully operational within a month, while the best photos from the competition will be awarded on 22 January 2010. The winning photos will also be exhibited at the Gospodarsko razstavisce fairgrounds in Ljubljana, Spela Bratun of the fairgrounds operator said.
The project's initiator, Primoz Zizek of Novo mesto-based event organiser Zavod Tovarna, expects some 1,000 photos to enter the competition.
Internet is becoming an increasingly popular medium for tourist promotions, Zizek said. In Europe, 30% of all package holidays are booked on-line, while in the US the share is 50%, he added.
